Dr. Milton R. Liverman, superintendent of Suffolk Public Schools, was recently recognized as the Region 2 Superintendent of the Year by the Virginia Association of School Superintendents. Region 2 is made up of South Hampton Roads, the Peninsula, Western Tidewater and the Eastern Shore.
&uot;The 2006 Regional Superintendents of the Year were distinguished by their leadership in making significant gains toward attaining full accreditation for their schools,&uot; said VASS President Edgar Hatrick in his remarks at the conference awards banquet.
&uot;All of the regional award winners demonstrated leadership skills that were instrumental in improving the student achievement.&uot;
The VASS newsletter wrote that Liverman &uot;subscribes to two important guiding principles in the decisions he makes as he leads his school division: ‘Do what is best for the students of Suffolk Public Schools’ and ‘Do what will take each child where he or she is capable of going.’
&uot;These principles have proven to be the keys to Liverman’s success in reorganizing his division to improve student achievement.
&uot;Thanks to Liverman’s efforts, the Suffolk students are reaching their full potential.&uot;
