Radford won two of three baseball games over the weekend at Virginia Military and the Big South series included RU senior Tyren Rivers (Nansemond River) taking on his younger brother, VMI freshman Ombri Rivers (Nansemond River).

Tyren, the starting center fielder and leadoff hitter for the Highlanders, went 5-for-13 with three stolen bases, a run and an RBI in the series. Ombri started two games in right field for the Keydets, going 3-for-8 with a run and a stolen base.

For the season, Tyren’s hitting .325 with 42 runs, 32 RBI, 27 stolen bases and five home runs. Ombri’s hitting .341 and has 15 runs.

Radford (23-20, 10-8) hosts Presbyterian in a conference series this weekend. VMI (30-16, 11-10) is off until May 11 and a game against Richmond.

William and Mary pitcher Matt Davenport (Nansemond-Suffolk) was named CAA Co-Player of the Week for the second time this season on Monday following his complete-game shutout win against Northeastern Friday in Williamsburg.

Davenport didn’t allow a Husky runner past second and struck out nine in the Tribe’s 9-0 win. Davenport, a 6-foot-8 sophomore right-hander, is 7-2 on the season with a 2.10 ERA and 75 strikeouts in 81.1 innings. The Tribe is 25-18 overall and 9-9 in the Colonial.

Hampton’s Kelsei Saunders (Nansemond River) hit a walk-off, two-out, three-run home run Sunday to give the Lady Pirates a 4-3 victory over Delaware State in a MEAC softball contest.

Hampton (20-34, 8-4) took two of three against DSU. Saunders’ homer gives her 11 for the season. Saunders, a sophomore third baseman, is hitting .359 with 46 RBI.

The Lady Pirates finish their regular season by hosting Coppin State in a doubleheader Friday and a single game Saturday.

Virginia-Wise junior Maddi Ridenour (Nansemond River) earned First Team All-Appalachian Athletic Conference honors for her season as UVA-Wise’s center fielder and leadoff hitter.

Ridenour led the Highland Cavs (15-26) in batting average (.349), runs (25) and stolen bases (16). Ridenour started all 41 games in center and committed one error on the season for a .984 fielding percentage.
