Pleasant Grove Baptist Church will celebrate Men’s Day at 11 a.m. today. The Rev. George Smith, associate minister, of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Portsmouth, will be the guest minister. The Singing Larks of Suffolk will render the music.
Church anniversary at Allen Grove
Allen Grove Baptist, Walters Highway in Franklin, will celebrate their church anniversary at 3 p.m. today. The Rev. Johnny Lyons and Bryant Baptist Church of Capron will render the service.
Women’s Day at Greater First Baptist
The women of Greater First Baptist Church will celebrate their annual Women’s Day at 11 a.m. today. The theme is &uot;Christian Women Focusing on God’s Purpose.&uot; The guest minister is the Rev. Dr. Phillips, a Nazarene minister from Kansas City, Miss., is the author of the book entitled, &uot;The God of a Second Chance.&uot; This autobiography is an account of the struggles and victories of this Nazarene minister from Trinidad, West Indies. The annual youth revival will begin Monday, June 13 with a musical. The speaker for the week, June 14-17, will be Elder Derrick Hutchins II from South Carolina. Various choirs will sing each night.
Youth revival at Lakeview Missionary

Orchestra performing at
Huguenot Road Baptist
The Huguenot Road Baptist Church Orchestra of Richmond, will be in concert at 7 p.m. Friday, June 17 at the Western Branch Baptist Church in Suffolk. This 30-piece Orchestra under the direction of Phillip Brown will present a program that will be appealing to all ages. The HRBC Orchestra is made up entirely of church member volunteers raging in age from Middle School through adults. The orchestra regularly plays in worship services as well as larger works and concerts and is currently on an Eastern Virginia concert tour.
The program will include a wide variety of musical styles something for everyone. There will be well-known hymn arrangements as well as new contemporary favorites. There are even selections specifically for children. There is no cost for this event.
Young Women in Christ sponsor ball
Young Women in Christ Ministries is sponsoring a formal ball at 5:30 p.m. July 9 at the Planters Club. The evening’s entertainment will include dinner, a praise team, praise dancers and raffle drawings. There will be a $20 donation for this event. Pentecostal Holiness Churches of America to host annual youth conference
The Pentecostal Holiness Churches of America Inc. will hold its annual Youth Conference Saturday, June 25-26. The event will be held at St. Paul’s PHC, 20663 Thomas Woods Trail, Zuni. Also, St. Paul PHC will host Family and Friends Day at 3 p.m. July 10. The guest speaker for the event will be Evangelist Leona Gay from Philadelphia, Penn.
Gospel Extravaganza
God’s Anointed Touch Ministry, Hwy. 460 in the Windsor Plaza Shopping Center, will host a Gospel Extravaganza Sunday featuring the Gospel Harmoneers of Ivor, the Virginia Aires of Chesapeake, Brothers in Christ of Franklin, the Gospel Aires of Smithfield and Emcee Leroy Butler. 130th anniversary at Gethsemane Baptist
Gethsemane Baptist Church, 1656 Copland Road, will be celebrating the 130th anniversary of service for God with special anniversary service throughout June. The theme is &uot;130 years of God’s Grace and Mercy&uot;. Each Sunday during the 11 a.m. worship services, the celebration takes place with reflections of the church’s past history, the on-going building champions for Christ and the teaching of God’s word.
