William and Barbara Thompson are pleased to announce the engagement of their son, William Thompson Jr., to Tamara Whitney of Zuni.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of pastors George and Mable Fenner Jr. of Zuni and the granddaughter of the late Charlie and Beachola Whitney of Ivor. She is also the daughter of Percy Williams and granddaughter of Vernell Williams, both of Washington, D.C. The groom-to-be is the grandson of Virginia Perry and the late Wilson Perry, and John and Catherine Thompson, all of Suffolk.

Tamara is a 2000 graduate of Southampton High School and received an associate degree from Paul D. Camp Community College in 2007. She is currently employed as a social worker with the Sussex County Department of Social Services.

William is a 2000 graduate of Lakeland High School and received his bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership and management from Regent University in 2007. William also received his master’s degree in human services with a business specialization from Liberty University in 2011. He is currently employed as an administrative services specialist with the Western Tidewater Community Services Board.

Their wedding will take place on Feb. 11 at 3 p.m. at the New Mount Joy Food for Living Ministries.
