Indian River (2-6, 2-5) at Lakeland (6-2, 5-2) – 7 p.m.

The Cavaliers topped the half-century mark for the second time in three games last Friday with a 54-41 win over Great Bridge, the best opponent Lakeland’s offense has gone crazy on this season.

Indian River had a two-game winning streak stopped in a serious way last week. Hickory led the Braves 48-3 at halftime and won 55-3.

Moving to quarterback, Raekwon Johnson accounted for five Cavalier touchdowns against the Wildcats.

Lakeland and Great Bridge were tied 14-14 before three straight Lakeland touchdowns added up to a 34-14 lead early in the second half. The Cavaliers led by as much as 47-21 before the Wildcats rallied to within 47-41.

Anaquan Peterson is averaging 15.9 yards per catch, along with his work returning punts. Antonio Jefferson is averaging 15.0 yards per catch.

Nansemond River (4-4, 3-4) at Hickory (5-3, 4-3) – 7 p.m.

The Hawks come into the contest, key for both sides’ playoff chances, off a 55-3 win over Indian River.

The Warriors pulled out a 37-30 win over Western Branch in the final seconds for Nansemond River’s first-ever win against the Bruins, so both sides should have all sorts of momentum.

Hickory quarterback Bear Totten was 5-for-9 passing for five touchdowns in Hickory’s rout of Indian River.

The Warriors got their dramatic winning touchdown with Darwin Barbee throwing to Shannon Evans for an 82-yard touchdown with 0:29 left. NR wouldn’t have been in the game in the last minute without LaMont Brown’s 193 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

Nansemond River is No. 10 in the regional power ratings. Booker T. Washington and Green Run are tied for eighth, the final spot into the postseason.

King’s Fork (1-7, 1-6) at Deep Creek (0-8, 0-7) – 7 p.m.

The Bulldogs scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter, making for a 35-19 loss to Grassfield after the undefeated Grizzlies rolled to a 35-0 margin.

The Bulldogs racked up 270 rushing yards last Friday. Devonte Everett’s 59-yard touchdown run put the Bulldogs on the board.

The Hornets have scored 17 total points this season. A 24-7 loss to Indian River has been Deep Creek’s closest game.

Nansemond-Suffolk (4-4) at Trinity Episcopal (1-7) – 3:30 p.m.

With a four-game winning streak, the Saints have worked their way back into the postseason chase after an 0-4 start. NSA is tied for fifth in the Virginia Independent Schools, Div. II ratings. Four teams make the playoffs.

The Saints beat Greenbrier Christian 44-0, holding the Gators to seven yards on offense, last Friday. NSA’s held opponents to 18 total points in its four wins.

The Saint offense has continually improved, on the ground and through the air, with 6-foot-2 junior Tim Burns and 5-foot-7 sophomore Jackson DeMello sharing time as the Saint quarterback.

Senior running back/linebacker/kicker Bobby Lamm tallied 15 points, with two rushing touchdowns and a 29-yard field goal, against the Gators.

Trinity Episcopal’s lost five straight games. Its lone victory was a 21-7 win over Norfolk Academy.
