A crowd of thousands

There is nothing like a good dose of sunshine to help a good thing grow.
That is what has proven to work for the 2010 Spring Homearama.
“I think spring is a time of hope and happiness in general,” said Eric Sasser of Sasser Construction. “People are in a good mood and have spring fever, as they say. Typically in the fall it’s much hotter and harder on the folks, but the weather has been absolutely prefect for people to walk about.”
Although the opening of the show had to compete with Mother’s Day and other festivals, Tidewater Builder’s Association and East West Community administrators said they were pleased with the opening weekend.
“Three days into the show, we couldn’t be more pleased,” said Mark Edwards, Senior Vice-President and Broker of East West Reality. “We’re excited about the start. Monday we had several people come back who came out on Sunday, and people who came out Saturday came back with cameras. That is definitely a good sign.”
Edwards said he’s heard positive comments from people about the quality of the homes, the number of homes in the show, the variation among them and decorating and the weather.
“People have had so many positive things to say that you know it’s a good thing,” Edwards said. “It’s great to hear those kinds of comments from folks.”
Proof of the show’s good start are the four homes — The River Retreat, Nature Watch, Affordable Elegance and the Meadow Glen — that already have been sold, a contract for Birdsong Builders, which built Affordable Elegance, to build another home in Founder’s Pointe and a pending contract for Norman Miller Builder Inc. to build a reproduction of Meadow Glen in a neighboring community.
“People are also coming in and getting ideas for decorating and renovations,” Edwards said. “I’ve handed out more than 800 of A. Dodson’s cards.”
Homearama runs through May 23, noon-9 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and noon-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Visit www.homearama.tv for more information and ticket discounts.
