Police are asking for the community’s help in solving an armed robbery outside the Food Lion on U.S. Route 58 last month.

A woman leaving the store in the 1500 block of Holland Road around 9:45 p.m. June 27 was approached by a man who stole her purse, said Lt. Debbie J. George, spokeswoman for the Suffolk Police Department.

He implied that he had a weapon.

The victim’s car was parked approximately three spaces from the front of the business, George said. The victim’s three children

were in the vehicle at the time of the robbery.

The suspect ran towards Holland Road after the robbery. He is described as a black male between the ages of 22 and 28, 5 feet 8 inches, 180-195 pounds with short black hair. He had no facial hair.

About two hours later, a black couple shopping at Wal-Mart, in the 1400 block of North Main Street, used the victim’s credit card pay for their purchases. The suspects left Wal-Mart in a small, green car. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective H. Bruce at 923-2158 or the Suffolk Crime Line at 1-888-Lock-U-Up.
