Classes at Pleasant Union

Virginia University of Lynchburg will be holding registration for fall classes from Aug. 1-26 at Pleasant Union Baptist Church, 215 Webb St. Classes will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursday from Aug. 30-Dec. 15.
Programs offered include certificate in ministry, bachelor in religious studies, associates in arts and sciences and master of divinity.

Family and Friends Day at Bethlehem
The 44th Family and Friends Day service will take place at Bethlehem Christian Church (United), 312 Bute St., at 11 a.m. Sunday. Minister Mervis Knight, an associate minister at Bethlehem, will be the speaker. Minister Travis Parker Sr. and the Bethlehem Male Chorus will provide the music along with their family members and friends. Bethlehem’s Praise Dance Ministry will render selections also. Other Bethlehem family members and friends will also take part in the service. The rev. Emanuel E. Myrick Jr. is the host pastor.
Piney Grove concert
The Spiritual Harmoneers of Tidewater will hold their reunion anniversary performance at 4 p.m. Aug. 14 at Piney Grove Baptist Church, 4901 Deer Path Road. Admission is free.
Performers include The New Golden Trumpeteers, The Golden Keys, Ronnie Whitfield and the Revive Singers, Piney Grove Male Chorus, Elite Revelation and God’s Best Kept Secret. Brother Leroy Butler will emcee. For information, call 923-3906.
Fall revival at Mt. Ararat
Mt. Ararat, located at 1860 Airport Road, will host its Fall Revival through Friday. The Rev. Wendall M. Waller, pastor of Christian Home Baptist, is the speaker of the week Music will be provided each night including guest churches Balm of Gileon Missionary Baptist Church on Monday; Tuesday, Gethsemane Baptist Church; Wednesday, St. Paul RZUA; Thursday, Christian Home Baptist and on Friday, the Saratoga Community Choir will perform. All services will begin at 7:30 p.m. The Rev. Dr. H. H. Murrill is the host pastor.
End of the Summer Gospel Fest in Norfolk
At 7 p.m. Aug. 26, the Garden of Prayer Worship Center, 1001 Church St. in Norfolk, will feature Timothy Wright and the Love Fellowship Mass Choir, Paul Porter and the Christionaires, the Eveready’s, Norman Nutchins, Kiki Sheard, Group Determination, Lamont Bynum and Remnant and DeJu Mime. Tickets are available at all DJ’s Music, Mr. T’s Unisex in Suffolk and Willis Broadcasting. Advanced tickets are $20; at the door, $25. Doors open at 6 p.m.
Free food, clothing at Capernaum Church
As a community service, Capernaum Seventh Day Adventist, 314 York St., will prepare a free dinner every Wednesday night beginning from 4:30 to 6 p.m. On Friday’s, there will be fresh fruit, vegetables and canned goods. Clothes are available on Sundays. Call 934-9814 for more information.
