If you are not a member of the Suffolk YMCA you should take advantage of the opportunity Saturday to visit during its grand re-opening festivities.
The spectacular facility is celebrating the completion of renovations and new additions which have been in the works for a long time.
The changes include new exercise studios, a Pilates studio, spinning rooms a climbing area for kids, in addition to the state-of-the-art cardio and strength training rooms, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, saunas and on and on.
The numbers show that many in Suffolk are already familiar with the Y, with about 3,500 membership units in place serving nearly 10,000 people, but there's room for more and with obesity on the rise as a major source of preventable disease and death, it's important that more of us take better care of our health.
But the Y is about more than just health fitness. There are also camps, aquatics, family and community programs and much more. By joining the Y and taking part in the activities, you're doing more than just helping yourself, you're helping to build a better Suffolk.
To help you decide to take the leap to a more active, healthy lifestyle, the Y will be having a membership special in September, so don't wait until New Year's to decide to get fit. Join the Y now and save your resolution for something else.
Saturday's festivities get under way at 10 a.m. and last until 4 p.m. There food, games, inflatables, clowns, face painting and more than 25 vendors. It will be a great time.
