It’ll be Suffolk’s Eddie Lyons (2-2) against Colonial Heights-Petersburg’s Johnny Brockwell (24-7) tonight at Colonial Heights when the two Virginia League teams inaugurate their four-out-of-seven playoff series.

The Goobers, who finished the regular season in fourth place, will have their work cut out for them against the pennant-winning Generals.

In 24 games against the league leaders this year, Suffolk was able to win by eight.

The Goobers lowered the curtain on their regular 1951 season last night by coming from behind in the late innings to nose out Franklin’s Killdees, 4-3.

In the seventh, after Charlie Bradshaw had fanned in a pinch-hitting capacity for Herman, Pickle Carn singled and Joe Mills and Solly Mohn walked to load the bases.

Buster Kinard forced Mohn at second, but Carn scored, and Young chased Mills home with the tying run on a Texas leaguer to right.

Home Makers HDC

has Monday meet

Home Makers Demonstra-tion Club met Monday afternoon at the home of Mrs. A. T. Horton with Floyd Umphlette presiding.

Mrs. Horton conducted the devotionals.

The president announced that the Achievement Day program will be held in September.

The present slate of officers was reelected for another term.

They are: president, Mrs. Floyd Umphlette; vice-president, Mrs. Floyd Brinkley; secretary, Mrs. A. T. Horton; assistant secretary, Mrs. Mills Davidson and treasurer, Mrs. C. Wesley Brinkley.

Mrs. Umphlette gave a report on the Institute of Rural Affairs which was held at Blacksburg the first of August.

Mrs. Jesse Hancock and Mrs. Vernon Riddick gave a most interesting demonstration on gift making, and displayed a number of homemade gifts.

Those present were: Mrs. Floyd Umphlette, Mrs. Floyd Brinkley, Mrs. I. B. Speight, Miss Margaret Eason, Mrs. Johnnie Baggett, Mrs. Otis Baines, Mrs. V. B. Harrell, Mrs. Z. Hedzpeth, Mrs. Jesses Hancock, Mrs. Wesley Brinkley, Mrs. U. B. Vaughan, Mrs. Mills Davidson, Mrs. J. P. Byrd and Mrs. Horton.
