Suffolk police have charged a former Goodwill store worker with embezzlement after they say she gave a friend unauthorized discounts and took some merchandise for herself.
Marchelle Watson, 30, is charged with felony embezzlement. Shaquine Newby, 21, also a former employee, is charged with conspiracy to commit embezzlement.
The alleged incident occurred in September, city spokeswoman Debbie George said. It was investigated by Goodwill management and turned over to police.
Police say Watson is accused of “undercharging a friend for numerous items in the store, as well as taking some items herself without paying for them,” George said. The value of those items added up to more than $200, George said.
Newby is accused of conspiracy, according to police, because she was aware the alleged activity was going on and did not report it.
