Nansemond-Suffolk Academy’s girls cruised to a three-game sweep of visiting Norfolk Christian Thursday. The boys did things the hard way.
While their female counterparts rolled to a 25-14, 25-17, 25-15, the Saints started slowly, scoring just 11 points in each of the first two games.
However, they got things together just in time, taking the third game 26-24. The Saints then won 25-22, and capped off their comeback with a 15-13 win in the last game. Brandon Whedbee knocked home eight kills, Ryan Beale five and Matt Hamlet four. Patrick Clark set up six assists, Bennett Bynum five.
In the girls game, Michelle Boucher dropped 12 kills, three more than Minka Foster. Jade Bishop bashed six for the Lady Saints, who’ll go to Norfolk Collegiate Tuesday while the boys stay home.
