A Suffolk woman whose young children were discovered walking in the path of an oncoming train Thursday is facing two child abuse charges.
Warrants have been issued charging Monique Little, 25, of 300 block of Jackson Road with two counts of felony child neglect, said Lt. Debbie George, spokeswoman for the Suffolk Police Department.
Police were called out the railroad tracks at the intersection of Hall Avenue and Saratoga Street around 4 p.m., where they found Little’s two children, ages 4 and 6, walking along the tracks, said George.
A train was approaching when police arrived. No one was injured.
Although Child Protective Services has been notified, the children are still staying with their mother, George said.
Police were also called out to Lakeland High School Thursday, where they confiscated a small folding knife from a 15-year-old student, George said.
Police will be issuing a petition charging the student with possession of a weapon on school property next week, she said.
