Sunset Concert set for Saturday

Two bands ousted from this summer’s TGIF series thanks to wildfire smoke and Hurricane Irene will get a second chance tonight — that is, if it doesn’t rain again.
The Silver Street Band and The English Channel will hit the stage at Bennett’s Creek Park tonight.
Beginning at 5 p.m., the Silver Street Band will bring its blend of country, rock and beach music to the park. The band’s originally scheduled concert on Aug. 26 was canceled because of Hurricane Irene.
At 7:15 p.m., The English Channel will light up the stage with their salute to British rock and pop. The band canceled its original TGIF date on Aug. 19 because of the air quality alert in effect at the time due to smoke from the Great Dismal Swamp wildfire.
The “Sunset Concert” is free and open to the public, with concessions available for purchase. Proceeds will benefit the city’s United Way campaign. The park is located at 3000 Bennett’s Creek Park Road.
