Nansemond-Suffolk alum Lauren Doughtie finished her second full season on the LPGA Futures Tour on a positive note, but not high enough to qualify for a full-time spot on the LPGA Tour next year.

Doughtie moved up the leaderboard on Sunday, the final day of the Price Chopper Tour Championship in Albany, N.Y., to finish in a tie for 16^th place in the season-ending tournament. Doughtie shot a two-under par 68 with five birdies along the way on Sunday.

Doughtie, a 2005 NSA grad and 2009 North Carolina State alum, finished No. 29 on the season’s money list in the LPGA Futures Tour, previously titled the Duramed Futures Tour.

The Futures Tour is equivalent to the PGA Nationwide Tour on the men’s pro side. The year’s top 10 players earn promotions to the LPGA Tour for the following year.

Doughtie’s season included finishing runner-up by a stroke at The International at Concord in Concord, N.H. in July. She carded rounds of 71, 67 and 66 for a 12-under par total and a $10,000 paycheck. The runner-up result was Doughtie’s best out of 14 tournaments this season.

For the second time in four years and her first time as a professional, Doughtie qualified for and played in the U.S. Women’s Open. She missed the cut with rounds of 80 and 81 at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Co. in July.

While at N.C. State, Doughtie reached the NCAA Championships and earned All-ACC honors. She won the 2008 Virginia Women’s State Amateur Championship at Bayville Golf Club in Virginia Beach.
