Thelma L. Luter

Thelma L. “Baby Cake” Luter of the 600 block of Kinsey Lane, Suffolk, passed away January 11, 2006 in Autumn Care of Suffolk. She was a native of Suffolk and was retired from domestic work. She was a member of Rising St. James Pentecostal Holiness Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Maggie Lawrence; and two sons, Elton Luter and Terry Smith. She is survived by two daughters, Laurae Fields (Larry) of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Sarah Valentine (Lee) of Suffolk; 11 stepchildren, 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Vanessa Smith; three brothers-in-law, Wallace Luter (Marion), Raleigh Luter, and Melvin Luter, all of Suffolk; two devoted nieces, Viola Harris and Viola Madison, both of New York; devoted caregiver, Versa Willett of Suffolk; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 17, 2006 in Rising St. James Pentecostal Holiness Church by Bishop Dwight Whitfield. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Crocker Funeral Home Monday from 7:00-8:00 p.m. and will assemble there Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. for the procession to the church.
