Some local and state politicians and city mayors are calling for increases in all sorts of taxes to pay for road improvement.

Before any new taxes are approved, there should be a Highway Trust Fund that cannot be raided by everyone in the state government.

The state government has used the Highway Trust Fund for a piggy bank and removed more than $500 million each year for the last several years.

They have taken the money out of the fund and then complained that we have no money for roads.

Wow! Who would have guessed?

Each time we fill our vehicles with gas, we pay 17 1/2 cents per gallon to the state. With millions of cars and trucks being filled up daily, where is all this money going?

Who is checking to see that the state is actually collecting the money?

There should be no new taxes of any kind, or tolls put on present highway users, or tunnels, until the Highway Trust Funds are put in a lock box that no one can use except for highway construction and repair.
