To get to know its new neighbors, the recently founded Creekside Community Church is hosting a community block party for the Chuckatuck community.
The event will take place Sept. 10, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Chuckatuck Volunteer Fire Department. It is free and open to the public.
“We just wanted to get to know the community and do something for everyone to come out and get to know each other,” said Christian Bagley, Creekside’s lead pastor.
The block party will feature refreshments, such as hotdogs and snow cones, as well as activities and games for both adults and children, including a bounce house, Frisbee, face painting, and cornhole.
Also, the youth praise band from Southside Baptist Church, which is the sponsor church for Creekside, will perform at the event, and there will be several drawings for prizes during the day.
Creekside Church was created earlier this year when Southside members wanted to reach out to the Chuckatuck area, Bagley said.
“Chuckatuck is a great area,” he said. “I think it’s got a lot of history, and I think it’s one of the areas in Suffolk getting ready to grow.”
The church does not have a building yet, and Creekside is in the early stages of establishing itself in the area.
Bagley said he hopes the event will be a way for members to learn how their church can better serve the community.
“Through the block party, it’ll give us an idea of who’s out there and how we can be praying for the community,” he said. “There may be some needs that aren’t being meet, and we want to see if we can address those needs.”
Bagley said the party is going to feature family friendly fun, and he hopes everyone will come and have a good time.
“My main goal is to get to know people,” he said. “I’d just like for everyone to come out and get to know their neighbors.”
