The Suffolk Presbyterian Church is offering five $2,000 scholarships to graduating seniors of Kings Fork, Lakeland, and Nansemond River high schools. Application forms are available from high school guidance counselors. Deadline is April 14.

Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeast Virginia, at JFK Middle school, is having a baseball clinic from 2-4 p.m.

The 58th annual Shad Planking, sponsored by the Wakefield Ruritan Club, will be held at the Wakefield Sportsman’s Club on Brittle Rd, 4 miles west of Wakefield, beginning at 2 p.m. and ending at 6:30 p.m., rain or shine.

The keynote speaker will be Attorney General Robert F. McDonnell, who will speak at 4 p.m. Tickets are $18 before April 1, and $20 thereafter. They are available from The Wakefield Ruritan Club, P.O. Box 148, Wakefield, VA 23888, or at the Virginia Diner in Wakefield. Call 899-5263.

H-E-A-R-T (Hope Exists After Rape Trauma), Inc., which provides hope and assistance for rape victims, both physically, emotionally and financially, is sponsoring a fund raising, Gospel Event at King’s Fork Middle School, 350 King’s Fork Rd. An eat-in dinner will be served from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m., and craft exhibits will be open from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. A program will be distributed to all visitors including information about H-E-A-R-T, the performing groups and individuals, and a description of the craft show participants. Oxford United Methodist Church will hold a yard sale from 8 a.m. to noon to clear out the overflow and winter items from the clothes closet to make way for summer garments. The items will sell for 25 cents to $2.

St. John’s Episcopal Church in Chuckatuck will hold its final 250th anniversary celebration and with a special service at 10:30 a.m. during which the church will be re-dedicated, followed by a luncheon and dedication of the memorial brick walkway.
