Suffolk police on Wednesday arrested a man they say burglarized the home of a family that had fled from Hurricane Irene.

Matthew Wayne Bloxom, 43, was charged with burglary Wednesday.

City spokeswoman Debbie George said Bloxom is homeless, and that the family had recently tried to provide assistance for him, so he was familiar with the layout of the house.

The family returned home to find that the house had been broken into. Some collector’s coins, valued at less than $100, were missing, George said.
