Nansemond Post 88 won the opening game of its American Legion baseball season Thursday night against visiting Newport News Post 368, 5-1.

Post 88 jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the home half of the first inning. Zach Rice got the victory on the mound for Nansemond, a junior division team made up largely of what was Nansemond River’s junior varsity baseball squad this spring. Tucker Rhoads got the save.

Nick Feliu went 3-for-3 with an RBI at the plate and Trevor Riggs went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBI.

Nansemond Post 88 hosts Williamsburg Post 1776 Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Nansemond River High School.
