For the second year, the Boys and Girls Club Suffolk unit is serving up barbecue and oysters to raise funds for the group.

The fundraiser will take place Sept. 24 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Constant’s Wharf Park and Marina. The tickets are $25 and cover the cost for all-you-can-eat barbecue and oysters and two beverages, including beer and wine.

Extra beverages can be purchased for $2. The Island Boy band will also perform at the event.

Karen Williams, who serves on the advisory board for the Suffolk Boys and Girls Club, said the group wanted to put on the event again this year because of last year’s success, but the members wanted to add something new.

“Last year, it was just a barbecue, and this year, we decided to take it up a notch, so we’re doing oysters,” she said. “It’s one more element to step it up.”

She added the money raised from the event will be used for the local Boys and Girls Club based at John F. Kennedy Middle School.

“The money we raise will stay in Suffolk, and that’s our purpose — to help the Suffolk unit of the Boys and Girls Club,” Williams said.

The group provides before- and after-school care for students and programs in different topics, such as character, leadership, and education and career development.

The Boys and Girls Club is hoping the fundraiser will help with the organization’s budget deficit this year.

“For this year, we have almost a $14,000 deficit, and we’re hoping that our fundraising effort will increase the number of children in the club and encourage more boys and girls to come,” Williams said. “We’d love for everyone to come out and help the Boys and Girls Club.”
