City Council appointed a new city assessor on Wednesday night.
Jean F. Jackson was promoted to the position during the City Council meeting. She has worked in the Suffolk assessor’s office since April.
She takes the place of former assessor Sid Daughtrey, who resigned in March.
Jackson has been a resident of Suffolk for 26 years. She graduated from St. Leo’s College, where she majored in business administration with a minor in accounting.
She has been a certified general real estate appraiser since 1992 and taught real estate appraisal at Paul D. Camp Community College.
Before her appointment as interim assessor in April, she had served on the Board of Equalization since 2005. The Board of Equalization is a group that makes decisions on property assessment appeals if the homeowner is not satisfied with their assessment and does not get a satisfactory answer from the assessor’s staff.
