William and Mary sophomore Matt Davenport (Nansemond-Suffolk) became the first Tribe pitcher since 2002 to be named first team All-Colonial Athletic Association as the league awards were presented during the CAA Tournament.

Davenport’s one of three starting pitchers on the league’s first team. He’s the third W&M pitcher ever to earn first team All-CAA honors.

Davenport, a 6-foot-8 right-handed hurler, went 8-2 with 1.96 ERA this season. His wins were tied for the conference lead for the year and his ERA ranked second in the CAA. His eight wins and 88 strikeouts are top-10 totals for a single season in Tribe baseball history.

UVA-Wise junior Maddi Ridenour earned first-team All-Appalachian Athletic Conference honors for her third straight softball season as the centerfielder for the Highland Cavaliers.

As UVA-Wise’s leadoff hitter, Ridenour hit .458 in conference games. She hit .349 overall with 25 runs, 16 stolen bases and one error out of 61 fielding chances for the season.

Ridenour’s been All-AAC each year at UVA-Wise and has been an NAIA All-American in past springs. She holds the program’s single-season records for batting average, on-base percentage and stolen bases.

Nansemond River ’03 and William and Mary ’07 alum Greg Sexton has split time this minor-league baseball season between Tampa Bay’s double-A team in Montgomery, Ala. and the Rays’ single-A team in Charlotte, Fla.

Sexton’s been with the Charlotte Stone Crabs in the Florida State League since mid-May. Sexton’s hitting .328 with Charlotte in 15 games with five doubles and four RBI. In his last seven games, Sexton, a third baseman, has five multi-hit games. With Montgomery earlier this season, Sexton hit .212 in 33 games.

Sexton was drafted by Tampa Bay in June 2007 after being a CAA Player of the Year and setting multiple offensive program records with William and Mary.
