Lakeland dominates district awards, too

The All-Southeastern District Team and All-Eastern Region Team were announced Friday and literally the entire starting lineup for Lakeland was named on one of the two all-district teams for the 2006 field hockey season.
Overall, Lakeland finished with a 16-2-1 record and claimed, for yet another consecutive season, the regular season and tournament championships in the district.
Inculding two tournament matches, Lakeland was 10-0-0 vs. district opponents, outscoring them 57-3.
Lakeland junior defender Lindsay Cutchins’ selections as Southeastern District Player of the Year and first-team All-Eastern Region highlighted the awards.
Nansemond River senior forward Katelyn Yandle and Lakeland senior midfielder Chelsey Salmon were also first team all-region honorees.
Cox defeated Maury, 5-1, in Friday’s regional final.
Cox senior Kaitlyn Hiltz, who led Cox to the regional title with a hat trick, was voted Eastern Region Player of the Year.
