Hattie S. Council departed this life on Monday, Nov. 6, in Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk. She was a native of Martin County, N.C., lived in Danbury, Conn., for a number of years, and spent most of her adult life in Suffolk.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sellie and Hattie Eldner Smith and her husband, Harvey Council Sr. Cherishing her memory are daughters, Hattie Marie Lyons (William) of Chesapeake and Dorothy Council Cheeks of Suffolk; son, Harvey Council Jr. (Laura) of The Villages, Fla.; sisters, Thelma Hobson of Hampton and Roxanna Walton of Carrollton; and a sister-in-law, Francis V. Artis of Suffolk and brother-in-law, William Hoggard of Danbury.

Mrs. Council also leaves 10 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren; and many devoted nieces and dedicated friends.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 10, in Crocker Funeral Home by Elder George Eldner. Interment will be in the Council Family Cemetery, Bethel, N.C.

The family will be at 1161 Nansemond Parkway, Lot No. 61 Magnolia Lake Trailer Park.
