Suffolk police arrested a man this week who they say had nearly two dozen marijuana plants growing in his apartment.

Lavon Mitshaw Ivey, 30, of the 2500 block of Sandy Spring Road, is charged with production, sale or distribution of marijuana.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, when the Special Investigations Unit went to the home. While speaking to the man, officers allegedly smelled a “heavy odor of marijuana,” city spokeswoman Debbie George said.

Police secured a search warrant and allegedly found 23 plants in a bedroom in various stages of growth, George added.
