This week’s Sunday Focus is about the Virginia Lottery in Suffolk. As you’ll read, the lottery has deep roots in history and has been used to fund various endeavors. In the commonwealth, the lottery provides funding for public schools.
However, the lottery also can be detrimental to those with gambling addictions and their families. The lottery can be fun to play occasionally, but making a habit out of it can hurt you and your loved ones.
If you are spending money that you need for food, utilities, rent, credit card payments or other necessary expenses to play the lottery, you may need to seek help.
For other symptoms of a gambling problem, turn to page 6. This could be the beginning of a fresh start for you and your family.
The bottom line on the lottery is this n play it if you want to, and if you can afford it. If you don’t have the money, then don’t waste what you do have on a lottery ticket.
