A Suffolk man was arrested Tuesday and charged with sexually abusing a child.

Michael Theriault, 39, of the 1100 block of Nansemond Parkway was charged with six counts of taking indecent liberties with a child and two counts of possession of child pornography, said Debbie George, spokeswoman for the city.

He is being held in Western Tidewater Regional Jail.

The charges came after allegations emerged that Theriault had “illegal contact” with a 13-year-old girl, according to George. Police also discovered nude photos of the child on his computer, which was seized when police executed a search warrant of his home on Tuesday.
