More than 50 neighborhoods, churches and businesses in the city are celebrating National Night Out, a nationwide crime and drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. Communities celebrate with cookouts, block parties, flashlight parades, outdoor movies and more.

Finale locations are set for Suffolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority and the Chuckatuck fire department. The theme this year is “It takes a neighborhood.”

The city hopes to bring back the first-place title it won for its population category in 2008 and 2009. It placed third in the nation last year for the 50,000 to 99,999 population category.
