SUFFOLK — Lucy Ellen Parker, 81, died on July 28, 2011. She was born in Gates County, N.C., to Henry Eddie Parker and Annie Laura Lilly Parker. She had been a resident of Suffolk for 78 years, where she served as the credit manager at Angus I. Hines/Sentry Services for over 33 years.
As a longtime member of Bethlehem Christian Church and the Taylor Brittle Sunday School Class, Lucy Ellen was a devoted Christian. She was a member of the Bethlehem Senior Fellowship Club and served on the church finance committee.
Miss Parker served as president of the Suffolk Credit Women International for three terms.
Lucy Ellen loved many things in life, but mostly her friends and family. Whether it was delivering meals, visiting shut-ins or babysitting, she gave of herself in so many ways. Whenever the opportunity presented itself, she enjoyed traveling and experiencing new adventures. Of her many loves, walking on the beach, gardening and bridge were some of her favorites.
In addition to her parents, Miss Parker was predeceased by three brothers, Raymond Clarence Parker, Thomas Edgar Parker and James Raleigh Parker, and a sister, Annie Mary Parker Bunch.
Survivors include one sister, Oma Lee Parker Joyner (Bob), of Franklin, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, July 31 at 2 p.m. at Bethlehem Christian Church in Suffolk by the Revs. Reginald Warren and Wayne Gardner, with burial at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory on Saturday, July 30 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
