For the third time this season, Lakeland posted double digits against a Southeastern District opponent, doing so with a 12-0 win over Suffolk rival King’s Fork at Lakeland on Wednesday.

The Lady Cavaliers scored six goals in each half, led by hat tricks by Kendell Combs and Holly Crichton.

It took 70 seconds for Lakeland to get going as Combs received a pass from Kelsey Smither and drove a hard blast into the King’s Fork cage from the middle of the KF arc, about 10 yards from goal.

The Lady Bulldog defense held out for 10 minutes after Combs’ first strike, but with practically all of the action taking place inside the KF half of the field, the last 20 minutes of the first half put the match out of reach.

Combs scored on a cross by Crichton from the right post across the goal mouth in the 11th minute. Four minutes later, Crichton was on the scoring end of a similar play as Kristin Buck’s pass toward the right post found Crichton for a goal into an open cage.

Combs had her hat trick by the 20th minute, with her third goal making it 4-0 Lakeland. Smither assisted on Combs’ third goal, and on the next Lady Cav goal two minutes later. Smither, with dribbling inside the KF arc, then shots on goal, set up both. Combs deflected a Smither drive, then Breanne Langston poked in a rebound to make it 5-0. A goal by Smither, off an assist by Alyssa Chirico, finished the first half’s scoring.

The second half was more of the same. Compounding the difficulty in going up against the Southeastern District’s best team, the Lady Bulldogs played the match with no substitutes.

Smither finished the match with two goals and four assists. Morgan McCaw had three assists. In addition to Langston’s goal in the first half, Taylor Young, Olivia Graham and Brittany Milteer scored once each in the second half.

King’s Fork (3-8-2, 1-5-1) goes out of the district for its next contest, hosting Woodside on Monday. Lakeland (10-2, 6-0) meets Western Branch (7-2, 5-1) on Friday in Virginia Beach. A pair of 3-1 wins, against Hickory and Nansemond River, are the closest district matches Lakeland has faced this season.
