Just four short years ago, Bo Bice was a breakout star on the immensely popular reality competition show, American Idol.

The Alabama native brought his southern rock style to the show’s fourth season and became an immediate fan favorite. He made it through to the show’s final round before losing to Carrie Underwood, who has gone on to become a country music queen.

For Bo Bice, the show’s end was just the beginning.

Since his Idol days, he has released two albums and toured the world with the same rock flair fans fell in love with on the show.

Bice’s next stop on his latest tour will be right here in Suffolk, at the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts this Sunday.

“We are excited about coming to see everybody,” Bice said during a phone interview from the road. “We’re out there for the fans; if it weren’t for the fans we wouldn’t have a show.”

Bice describes his show as a “good live rock-n roll show,” adding that it’s one the whole family can enjoy.

“It’s southern rock. It’s for all ages, we won’t spit on you or cuss at you,” he joked, “we just go out and have fun.”

Throughout the set, fans will hear a mixture of Bice originals from his albums “The Real Thing” and “See The Light,” as well as covers from some of his favorite influences including Lynryd Skynyrd and The Allman Brothers.

Plus, fans will hear Bice’s latest single, “I Love the Road” – the title track to his next CD – which will be available for presale in December.

On the CD, Bice will have another song, “American Blood” that he wrote specifically for the men and women in uniform.

It’s a passion for Bice, who does more for the troops then just write songs for them.

Last week he got back from his second trip to Iraq and Afghanistan this year.

He visits the troops overseas with a program called Stars for Stripes, a non-profit organization that has brought celebrities like Bice, Charlie Daniels, Richard Marx and Lee Ann Womack over to meet and greet soldiers fighting on the front lines.

“We all go over there and get to thank them for everything they’re doing,” he said.

While not touring, Bice said, he’s been planning the next studio album.

“Just keeping doing what I’m doing,” he said. “There’s no big changes for me, I’m just blessed to have a gig and people who have stayed interested in the music.”
