Nick Miller, a senior three-sport athlete at Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, was a state finalist for the 2008 Wendy’s High School Heisman Award. An awards banquet was held in Richmond for the 23 state finalists who were chosen from more than 1,000 applicants from around the state.
Miller is captain of NSA’s cross country team. This past fall, the Saints had one of their best team finishes in the program’s history, finishing third in the Tidewater Conference. Miller earned All-State honors for the 2008 season and he has been All-TCIS three times.
Miller is a member of NSA’s swim team. Last season he qualified for the Virginia Independent Schools state meet. Miller was team MVP last spring on NSA’s track team, on which he’s a long-distance runner.
In addition to athletic accomplishments, the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award recognizes scholarship and citizenship.
Miller is president of NSA’s Helping Hands community service organization. He volunteers with the Special Olympics, the YMCA and as an assistant swim coach. Miller works as a lifeguard at Riverfront Swim Club. In October, Miller was voted NSA’s Homecoming King.
Miller’s cumulative GPA is over 4.0. He’s a member of the student council and the National Honor Society.
Ashley Marquez of Nansemond River and Jaime Iiams of Nansemond-Suffolk were school winners. Christopher York of Clarke County High School and Hannah Varnell of Gloucester High School were Virginia state winners.
