Canes finish turn at Wood Bat strong

Both teams with Suffolk players finished their play in the 2011 World Wood Bat Association 17U National Championship on Thursday in Marietta, Ga.
Canes Baseball went 5-0 through its group earlier in the tournament before falling 6-4 to Utah Baseball Academy in a round of 32 game.
Utah scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning (the last inning) to rally over the Canes.
Josh Henderson, a home-schooled kid who plays with First Baptist and is a rising senior, had a triple with an RBI and a run scored for Canes Baseball. Kyle Moore, a rising senior at Nansemond River, is also on Canes Baseball, one of a number of Canes select teams based out of Fredericksburg.
Canes Prospects ended its week in Georgia with a 4-3 win over All American Prospects Blue in a consolation game.
Brandon Lowe, a rising senior at Nansemond River, was a starting infielder for Canes Prospects throughout the tourney. Canes Prospects finished with a 4-1-1 record.
The World Wood Bat Association National Championship featured 216 select teams for seven days of games.
