A Williamsburg man was sentenced Tuesday to 20 years in prison for his participation in a drug distribution ring that operated partially in Suffolk.

Arthur Nakia Jones, 35, of Williamsburg, received the sentence from U.S. District Judge Rebecca Beach Smith. He pleaded guilty in March.

According to court documents, Jones was involved in the drug conspiracy from 1997 through 2006. He bought and sold powder cocaine, cooked powder cocaine into crack for distribution, and also bought and sold cocaine in Suffolk, Newport News and Williamsburg.

The case was investigated by the James City County Police Department and the Virginia State Police Tri-Rivers Task Force. Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric M. Hurt prosecuted the case.
