NR starts S.C. trip with comeback win

Nansemond River trailed by 12 points in the first half before coming back to defeat Myrtle Beach 54-43 in the first round of the Crescent Bank Holiday Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Thursday.
The loss was the first of the season for Myrtle Beach (4-1). Nansemond River (4-1, 3-1) advanced to face Alexandria’s T.C. Williams on Friday.
Andrea Jones’ jump shot with 12:13 remaining in the second half (two 16-minute halves are played in the tournament) gave the Lady Warriors a 32-31 lead, their first lead of the game. Nansemond River held Myrtle Beach scoreless over the final 6:17 of the game to pull away.
Myrtle Beach opened a 17-5 lead in the first 5:58 of the game and led 26-14 with five minutes to go before halftime.
NR’s Trinese Fox scored eight points during a 12-3 run at the end of the half which brought the Lady Warriors within three points at the break.
Fox finished with 15 points, six rebounds and three steals. Jones had 15 points and two assists. Jasmine Clark and Sloane Smith had six points each. Kelsey Evans led NR with seven rebounds.
