I watched in amazement as the Casey Anthony trial concluded.

Baez says he is proud to tell his daughter he saved a girl’s life. He apparently does not believe the life he saved is certainly guilty of murder, but all who watched the whole trial, which the jury could not see, certainly believe that.

Justice was not served for tiny Caylee. This was a tragedy of errors. As the trial ended, there should have been a time of weeping, instead of champagne and laughter.

But then, this mother never wept for that child, did she? She wept only for herself.

The only redeeming factor in all this is that there is, perhaps, a greater awareness of the tragic details of child treatment today.

The end has not come. Casey Anthony, with her lies and lewd behavior, has survived a guilty sentence. She may not serve any further time in jail, but a higher Judge, God Himself, will not make any mistakes when she faces His court.

In Matthew 18, Jesus had some strong words to say about mistreatment of children.

The disciples wanted to know who would be the greatest in the kingdom of Heaven. Jesus did a most unusual thing and called a child to him. He said unless people become as little children, they will not enter the kingdom of heaven. People are to be as humble, without guile, as this child He called to Himself. Then Jesus went further. He said, “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it is better for him that a heavy millstone be hung around his neck and that he be drowned in the depth of the sea.” Then, he added, “See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in Heaven continually behold the face of My Father Who is in Heaven.”

I have no doubt that little Caylee is in the loving Hands of the Lord Jesus, but sadness reigns with those who saw the pictures of an adorable little girl singing “You Are My Sunshine.” I don’t suppose anyone taught her “Jesus Loves Me,” but the Scripture says He does love her and other children.

Anton Chekhov wrote a short story, “God Sees the Truth and Waits.” Her mother may have thought no one would ever know what happened, but God sees the truth; He saw what happened.

That would be enough to tear at our hearts because of little Caylee, but there is more. We ourselves need to consider that angels are watching our actions. The “spirit world” that surrounds us is not to be taken lightly. Maybe it was angelic power that led to little Caylee’s remains. If so, those angels get an A for their actions. Certainly, the Scripture says there is nothing hidden that shall not be revealed.
