An Isle of Wight Sheriff’s deputy facing felony charges in connection with alleged sexual acts with a teenage girl is scheduled to appear in Southampton County Circuit Court 9 a.m. July 12.
Sgt. Ron Carwile was indicted for two counts of sexual abuse of a child under 15 and four counts of sexual abuse of a child under 15, third or subsequent offense. The alleged incidents occurred in Franklin between September 2009 and January 2010.
Halifax County Commonwealth Attorney Kim White, who was assigned to prosecute the case, would not say whether Carwile would have a trial on Tuesday or enter a plea.
“The matter is set to be heard by the judge on Tuesday in the Southampton County Circuit Court,” White said. “Other than confirming the scheduling of matters, I won’t comment any further as the case is pending.”
Carwile is free on $10,000 bond.
He was initially placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an administrative investigation by the sheriff’s office. Carwile has since returned to work, but is not participating in law enforcement activities.
