Roy Lee Adams, 61, of 217 Locust St., Suffolk, Va., died Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at his residence. He was a native of Suffolk and the son of Pearl Vernon Adams and the late George W. Adams Sr.
He was a 1970 graduate of John F. Kennedy High School and attended Elizabeth City State University. He was employed as a supervisor at the Newport News Shipyard. He was a member of St. Mark AME Zion Church, where he was a trustee, member of the Male Chorus, Fellowship Choir and Class No. 2.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Gwendolyn Salena Adams; a daughter, Devita Vanae Adams, of Suffolk; a son, Alfred Andrea Adams (Lisa), of Suffolk; brothers, George W. Adams (Connell); sisters-in-law, Gloria Barnes, of Chesapeake, Va., Regina Smith, of Trenton, N.J., and Betty Jo James, of Jersey City, N.J.; brothers-in-law, Purnell Taylor and Ronald Davis; five grandchildren, Paris, Dkyia, Asian, Amarri and Tamisha; aunts, Sallie Person and Mary Anne Brock, both of Suffolk; uncle, James E. Herndon Sr.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at noon, Saturday, July 9, 2011, at St. Mark AME Zion Church officiated by the Rev. Willmers Williams. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. The remains will be taken to the church at 10:30 a.m. The family will assemble at 11 a.m. at the residence for the procession to the church on Saturday. Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. is handling the arrangements.
