For those who don’t think that the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts doesn’t play a role in our city, think again.

The first full-scale, homegrown production, at the center, “Peter Pan” has garnered the interest of hundreds of hopeful actors and actresses, along with some appealing support from scores of residents.

This Saturday and Monday, hundreds of children and adults lined the halls of the SCCA, sitting on the floor and leaning against walls, practicing songs, reading scripts and wringing their hands in anticipation of their chance to be a part of the production.

The musical is another example of the unique opportunities Suffolk is afforded by hosting the SCCA. The center brings art to the forefront of our community, something many other communities wish they had.

So next time we contemplate the viability of the center, remember that it serves our city in many different ways. More importantly, the center improves our quality of life in Suffolk.

“Peter Pan” will have four performances at the center, March 13-15. Make plans now to see some of Hampton Roads’ brightest and best talent.
