Former Warrior promoted to double-A

Former Nansemond River standout Greg Sexton was promoted within the Tampa Bay Ray farm system, from single-A Charlotte (Fla.) to double-A Montgomery with his first game on the new club coming on June 28.
With the Charlotte Stone Crabs, Sexton, a third baseman, was leading the Florida State League with 59 RBI in 72 games this season. Sexton, who graduated from Nansemond River in 2003 and from William and Mary in 2007, also had a .313 batting average with 48 runs, 22 doubles and three homers.
In five games with the Montgomery Biscuits, Sexton’s 5-for-17 (.294) at the plate. Sexton hit a home run in his third game with the Biscuits, part of a 2-for-3 day at the plate for Sexton and a 5-2 Biscuit win at Mobile.
Sexton played 33 games with Montgomery in 2010. He was drafted in the 2007 MLB Draft by Tampa Bay and has been in the Ray farm system since.
