For more than two years, Jason Fulford has been trying to get a tattoo parlor in Suffolk.

It seems he may be coming closer to his dream.

His conditional use permit request to open a tattoo parlor and body piercing salon on Portsmouth Boulevard, in the Food Lion shopping center, is scheduled for a public hearing at the Tuesday meeting of the Planning Commission. The meeting begins at 2 p.m. in City Council chambers, 441 Market St.

“We’re excited about it,” Fulford said. “I think it’s a great thing for Suffolk. It will generate a lot of tax dollars.”

Fulford said the step of going to the Planning Commission makes him both excited and nervous.

“It’s just a great step,” he said. “It’s been a long time coming. It’s bringing years of work and thought and planning on my part as well as the city’s to get this thing going.”

Fulford said he anticipates favorable reactions from the Planning Commission and City Council.

Also on the Planning Commission agenda for Tuesday’s meeting is a conditional use permit submitted on behalf of CenterPoint Properties Trust. The company is requesting permission to erect a religious assembly building on its property. West Suffolk Baptist Church is moving from its present location on U.S. Route 58 to a piece of land on Kenyon Road, at the request of CenterPoint, and must get the conditional use permit request passed in order to do so.

Also on the agenda are preliminary subdivision plats for Wal-Mart on North Main Street, a plat on King’s Fork Road and dedication of right-of-way for West Finney Avenue.
