Way to go, Bulldogs!

Congratulations to the King’s Fork boys’ basketball team for capturing the state basketball crown! After scoring nine points, yes nine, in the first 18 minutes of the state championship game Friday night, King’s Fork rallied with a huge comeback on the biggest of stages to win the VHSL Boys Basketball State Championship 49-47 over William Fleming.

The Bulldogs outscored William Fleming 40-19 the last 14:02 of play, turning the Siegel Center into a crazy, woofing scene for much of a frantic fourth period. The consistent play, hard work and perseverance displayed this season by the Bulldogs resulted in them winning the biggest prize in high school basketball, deservingly so.

The Bulldogs (31-1) win the first state basketball title for a Suffolk school since Nansemond River in Group AA in 1995. Suffolk is proud of the student athletes, their coaches and parents for the team’s accomplishments.

The only disappointment is this: Now that the season is over, Suffolk will have to wait another season to see the King’s Fork basketball team back on the court.
