The Southeast Art Institute of Virginia is holding an open house to introduce Autumn Nuckols as Director for the “Art of Learning Center.” The center, with support from the Suffolk Parks and Recreation Department, will be opening April 20 for its after-school program.
The Learning Center will offer students in grades one through five hands-on tutorial help, assistance with homework, a 45-minute art session, and a small, health-conscious snack, daily. The center will be open weekdays from 4 to 6 p.m. Individual assessment meetings will prospective parents and children will take place April 13-17.
Nuckols is a 2002 graduate of Lakeland high school and an alumna of Ferrum College with a bachelor’s degree in art. Nuckols and the center both share the same philosophy that children need a healthy balance of creative arts and academic studies.
Working under Nuckols, and assisting with the children are Mrs. Glen Jones and Gloria Taylor. Jones and Taylor both have a passion to help Suffolk’s children reach their academic and artistic potential.
Often improvement is most needed for grades one through five to establish a good foundation for the child’s future. The students will participate in an assessment process and have individual evaluation sessions. Each student’s evaluation will be analyzed and individualized, and an instructional program will be created.
The center is located on Franklin Street in downtown area of Suffolk at The Southeast Art Institute of Virginia. For further details, contact the Art of Learning Center at 925-1077.
