A boil water advisory is in effect for approximately 40 homes in the Oakland area of the Chuckatuck Borough in Suffolk following a water main break. The advisory, issued by the Suffolk Department of Public Utilities, is a precaution against stomach or intestinal illness. The advisory is in effect until further notice while water quality testing is underway.

The advisory impacts residents in the 5800 and 5900 Blocks of Hawk Lane, 1011 Hawk Lane, 200 Block of Sparrow Road, and 200 Block of Beaver Lane.
The advisory was issued after a water main break on Monday, Jan. 27 afternoon.
Public Utilities staff made door-to-door notifications to residents who were available on the evening of Jan. 27 and provided boil water advisory information.
Residents are advised to boil all water used for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, making ice, or washing dishes. Water should reach a rolling boil for at least one minute, then be allowed to cool before use. Bottled water can be used as an alternative. Water for bathing or washing clothes does not need to be boiled, but residents should avoid ingesting it.
The City of Suffolk is conducting water quality testing and will inform the public when it is safe to resume normal water usage.

Updates will be shared on the City’s website at www.suffolkva.us.
