One firefighter injured in house fire

SUFFOLK – Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded to the 3500 Blk. of Ludlow Cove for a reported explosion and house on fire. Emergency Communications dispatched the incident at 6:32 p.m.
Engine 10 arrived at 6:37 p.m. to find a two-story detached residential structure with heavy fire showing from the front of the structure. There were multiple reports of an explosion prior to the house catching fire. With reports of occupants being inside the structure, firefighters attacked the fire from the front of the structure while crews entered to search for occupants. The searches were completed with no occupants found.
While firefighters were controlling the fire, the owner arrived and confirmed that everyone was accounted for and safely outside the structure. The fire was placed under control at 8:18 p.m. Heavy damage occurred to the entire structure. One firefighter as injured while searching the structure and was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. There were no injuries to occupants.
The occupants did not require assistance from the Red Cross, yet two adults and four children are displaced. The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation by the Suffolk Fire Marshal’s Office. The report of an explosion is also being investigated. Fire Marshal 1 is leading the investigation.
