Two Kings Fork High School Bulldogs were named to the 2024 Class 5 All-State Football team. Running back Javon Ford II was named to the first team offense, while defensive lineman Justin Irby earned second team defense honors.
The 2024 VHSL Class 5 state champion Maury Commodores dominated the top individual awards. Au’Tori Newkirk was named Offensive Player of the Year, CJ Smith was named Defensive Player of the Year, and Dyrri McCain was named Coach of the Year. Newkirk, a senior quarterback, passed for 3,802 yards and 50 touchdowns this season while leading the Commodores to an undefeated season and back-to-back state titles. This is his second consecutive Offensive POY award.
Smith, a senior linebacker, finished his senior year with 100 tackles, 48 tackles for loss, and 17 sacks.
McCain led Maury to a 15-0 record and their first-ever back-to-back state titles. He has been named Class 5 Coach of the Year three times.
The all-state football team comprises 32 players, with 16 players named to the offense and 16 to the defense. Only players selected to the all-region first-team are eligible for selection to the all-state team.
