A Coast Guard rescue helicopter crew from Elizabeth City, N.C., rescued three adults and three children stranded on a grounded vessel near the Nansemond River on Saturday morning, according to a Coast Guard report.
The Suffolk Sheriff’s Department notified the Coast Guard in Portsmouth that an 18-foot boat with six people aboard was aground and that the water was too shallow for either a Suffolk Fire and Rescue boat or a good Samaritan on scene to reach them.
Due to the possibility of heavy weather later in the day, a helicopter crew from the air station launched and transferred all six people to Brady’s Marina in Suffolk.
There were no injuries reported in the incident.
