According to a media release from Suffolk Fire & Rescue, a fire at a commercial warehouse on Westport Parkway on Sunday was quickly contained. The fire, which was ruled accidental, was caused by a malfunctioning HVAC unit on the building’s roof.
At 5:05 p.m., emergency communications received a report of a fire at the warehouse and dispatched crews to the scene. Crews arrived five minutes later and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the large HVAC unit.
Firefighters reached the blaze using aerial ladders and an interior roof access. Their quick actions allowed them to isolate and suppress the fire before it could spread into the building. By 5:46 p.m., the fire was declared under control.
The warehouse was largely unoccupied at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported. Due to the fire being contained to the HVAC unit, there was no damage to the interior of the building or its contents.
